Global DC Wiki (“we”, “us”) runs www.globaldcwiki.com, a database and map of data centre sites. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the site, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Google, LinkedIn or an emailed link we receive your name, email address and, for Google and LinkedIn, your profile photo. We never see your Google or LinkedIn password.
- Plan and billing. If you subscribe, Stripe processes your payment. We keep your plan, subscription status, renewal date and Stripe customer reference. We never receive or store your card number.
- Usage. To enforce each plan’s daily allowance we record, per day, which site records and lists you opened and how many Ask AI questions you asked. We also keep basic visit counts.
- Questions you ask. Ask AI questions and the answers are stored with your account so you can see recent ones.
- Edits you propose. Changes you submit to the register are stored with your name, and accepted changes appear in the site’s public change history.
- Your location, only if you ask. The map’s “Show my location” button uses your browser’s location to centre the map. It stays in your browser; we don’t receive or store it.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider logs IP addresses and browser details to keep the service secure and working.
How we use it
- To run your account, apply your plan’s limits and bill paid plans.
- To send service emails: a welcome email, plan and billing notices, and sign-in links you request. We don’t send marketing emails without your consent.
- To check proposed edits against public sources and answer Ask AI questions.
- To protect the register from scraping and abuse.
- To measure sign-ups and purchases from our Google Ads campaigns. When you sign up or buy a plan after clicking one of our ads, the Google tag sends Google a one-way hashed (scrambled) copy of your email address so the conversion can be matched to the ad. Google cannot read the address from it.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell personal data. We use these service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: hosting, sign-in, database and server functions.
- Stripe: payments and subscriptions.
- Resend: sending emails.
- Anthropic: the AI model behind Ask AI and source checks. Your questions are sent to it to generate answers.
- Google (sign-in and Ads), LinkedIn (sign-in): if you choose those options.
Some of these providers store data outside your country, including in the United States.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser’s storage to keep you signed in and to remember small settings, such as the daily guest allowance. The Google Ads tag may set cookies to measure ad conversions. You can block or clear these in your browser.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is open. Daily usage records are kept for up to 12 months. Billing records are kept as long as tax law requires. Accepted edits stay in the register’s history.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to close your account, by emailing us. Cancel a paid plan at any time from Plan and billing. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
